Located between Manzanita and Nehalem on the Northern Oregon Coast, Nehalem Bay State Park is at the beginning of the four mile sand spit separating the Nehalem Bay and the Pacific Ocean. On one side of the park is the Nehalem Bay with the village of Wheeler on it's opposite shore. On the other, sand dunes separate the park from the beach - an easy walk over the dunes to sun and surf.

The park resides in the coastal rain forest, trees hang with moss and ponds are nestled amount the tall grasses and marshy meadows.

The park offers camping for everyone - including ADA, biker/hiker, fly-in and horse camp facilities. During peak season (May 1 to September 30) rates are:

  • $10 airport camp
  • $27 yurt
  • $4 hiker/biker
  • $7 extra vehicle
Off seasons rates (October 1 thru April 30 - referred to as the Discovery Season) are:

Nehalem Bay State Airport serves Manzanita and Tillamook County and is owned by Oregon Aero Div. The paved runway extends for 2350 feet. The facility is at an elevation of 22 feet at a distance of about 2 miles from Manzanita.

* Electrical hook-up spaces are for tents, trucks camper, fifth wheel and recreational vehicle camping during peak season - whether you need a hook-up or not.

Day-use fees are $3 per car per day or purchase a $25 annual permit (or $40 for two years) which allows access to day-uses areas in all Oregon State Parks. For fly-in camping, air strip is adjacent to campgrounds. There are 17 horse camps with corrals.

There are bicycle, horseback and walking trails, including a 1-3/4 mile trail that circles the air strip. Along the trails, expect to see a wide variety of birds, as well as elk, deer, squirrels and coyote. Walk south on the beach to the jetty where you'll see an abundance of seals.

Other things to do during your visit include kayaking, crabbing, fishing, walks on the beach - be sure to catch the spectacular sunsets or take a moonlight stroll - or shopping and dining in the nearby communities of Manzanita, Nehalem and Wheeler.

To reach Nehalem Bay State Park from either the north or south, turn west off U.S. Highway 101 at the Shell station between the towns of Manzanita and Nehalem (there is a sign). Go 1-1/2 miles to the park entrance. Follow signs to registration booth 1/4 mile inside park entrance.
